On 10 June 2015, KODAF co-hosted a side event as a part of COSP8 on the theme "Ensuring the Income security of persons with disabilities". The participants were from private and public sector.  The followings were discussed during the event.  

 

 

1.  Korea
-  Status Quo: 
Average Monthly Income of a PWD worker = USD 1,513 (Statistics Korea, 2014), which is 62% of what a non-disabled worker earns. 
Male PWD worker earns USD 1,628. Female PWD worker earns USD 857.
Women with Disabilities earn below Minimum Wage, despite the existence of law for Mandatory Quota for Employment of PWDs and Minimum Wage.
-   Income Security System(3): Disability pension, pension for persons with severe disabilities, and the National Basic Living Security Act. 

2.  Colombia
- Status Quo: 23% of PWDs between age 15-59 are working
67% of the Colombian population between 10-14 years of age receive education, leading to low socio-economic status or unemployment.
The Elderly (60 years of age and more) PWD, 41.9% does not receive any retirement pension. 
-  Income Security System: Colpensiones, Government Agency in charge of giving pensions to all Colombians, evaluated by the medical board.
Incentives for employers (Law 2737/1989, Law 1618/2013); although laws and public policies exist, they’re not implemented in practice. 

3. Sri Lanka
- Status Quo: No accurate Statistics on disability.
12-15% of the population could be living with disabilities due to three decade long war, 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami, etc.
-  Income Security System: Program on employment for persons with disabilities, implemented by Employers’ Federation of Ceylon (EFC), supported by International Labor Organization (ILO).
