The significance of disability rights is unspeakable. This year marks the 11th year since the adoptation of UNCRPD. Korea has ratified it since 2007 and enacted the Act on Anti-Discrimination of Persons with Disabilities in 2008 to lay the foundation for guaranteeing human rights for persons with disabilities.

On 6 December, we will hold the Disability Rights Awards to promote the rights of persons with disabilities. The awardee, who have devoted themselves to advocate and promote the rights of persons with disabilities, will be presented.  

We have formed a Committee on Disability Rights Award to identify candidates, who have committed to the rights of persons with disabilities based on the specific provisions of the Anti-Discrimination Act and human rights advocacy.

Throughout the event, we aim to derive the social interest and bring positive effects for the rights of persons with disabilities. The followings are the list of Awardee this year. 

1. Award on Individuals

 - Tae Gone Lee (Chief Editor of Monthly Co-Walk)

 - Sungeum Society for the Blind Union 

   : setting up the phone-line to better communication

2. Award on media

 - Jonhpil Park (Director and Visual Activist)

3. Award on public sector I

- Gwangmyung city, Gyunggi Province 

  : establishment of Human Rights Ordinance

4. Award on public sector II

 - Korea Asset Management Corporation

  : publishing an audio books for the visual impairment to reduce the gap of culture and the arts
